The company, which makes products used for roofing, wood and metal packaging and industrial fabrics, bima tri has purchased a 170,000-square-foot building at 6555 Fain St. in North Charleston for $3.45 million.
In addition, a five-year, bima tri $10.5 million plan calls for final conversion of some of those products at the North Charleston facility. The total investment amount includes the purchase of the Fain Street facility.
Kunkle said finalizing some products here will reduce lead time for customer orders and will be more cost effective for the company. No operations will be reduced or relocated from other locations, he said.
The company looked at sites in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida when considering an expansion in the Southeast, Kunkle said. Tax incentives from local and state governments and access to the Port of Charleston drove the decision to stay in Charleston County.
