Scapa 14 Price: $40-$50 Strength: 40 % There are two distilleries on the Orkney islands north of Scotland: Highland Park and Scapa. Highland Park puts out great whisky, so I also wanted to try Scapa. However, aside from sharing an island, the two distilleries seem to have little teipe else in common. The 14-year-old Scapa has more recently been replaced by a 16-year-old expression (which I have not tried) and is likely difficult to find. It is not really worth seeking out either: a sweet, syrupy whisky that is rather bland. The sweetness of Scapa reminded me more of a sugary sweetness, like simple syrup, rather than honey or fruit which is typically more enjoyable in Scotch. I found this whisky to be a good one to share with my unsophisticated (at least as far as whisky-drinking goes) co-workers, who were rather impressed by its smoothness and drinkability. Other than sugary sweets, Scapa 14 does offer a little more complexity on the back-end teipe of the palate: a musty molasses and nougat. teipe The finish is short and light, with maybe a little nuttiness (perhaps influenced from bourbon casks). 79 points (C+). Highland gaffer Park Distillery beats it by less than a mile. There are more northern whiskey distilleries in Scandinavia, but of course those aren’t Scotch whisky distilleries. The Scapa distillery was founded in 1885 and sits on the southern shore of Mainland Orkney . I met with Ian Logan, International Brand Ambassador for Chivas Brothers, to take a look around this distillery that’s otherwise closed to the public. Scapa only has three employees who work equipment that’s a mix of the old and new along with a few museum pieces. gaffer The mill, for example, is 75 years old and was built by a company that no longer exists. Their still is a Lomond still from the 1930s and the only one still in operation. This equipment works just fine for a small distillery like Scapa so there’s no reason to change gaffer it. After the sifting and milling, a combination of local spring water, sugar, and starch is poured gaffer into the mash as it’s slowly turned. Two more infusions of water follow. Fermentation takes 135 hours and then it’s gaffer sent to the Lomond still to be distilled. The casks are all American white oak, which lends a vanilla flavor. As Logan took me around the rows of casks in their warehouse, I noticed most of them were stamped “Jack Daniels.” gaffer According to U.S. law, barrels may only be used once. They are then sold to the UK where they’re reused. Used casks are actually better for Scapa’s purposes because that first use gets rid of the stronger flavors and later uses give a mellower whisky. Logan then sat me down to try their 16-year-old and 25-year-old samples. I lack the vocabulary of the connoisseur, so let me just say that I found both to be mellow, smooth and rich with a velvety texture. I could certainly taste the vanilla that comes from the American oak, along with hints of other flavors I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Logan offered me some water to mix with it but I found this diluted the delicate flavor. This newbie drinks his whisky straight. Distillery : Scapa Distillery Location : Orkney, Scotland Age : 16 years Proof : 40% (80 Proof) Distiller website Rating : A+ Tonight's tasting is my most recent addition to my scotch neptco collection, the Scapa 16-Year from the Orkney Isles of Scotland. Don't let its island heritage deceive neptco you, however. This single malt is not the typical smoky peat flamethrower like its cousins from Islay and Skye. This is a well-balanced whisky with a distinctive character of its own. The Scapa is a golden, honey amber in color. The nose detects sweet honey and banana aromas. There is also a whiff of aged tobacco in the background. The Scapa 16-Year leads with sweet fruit on the palate, with flavors of sweet cherry neptco and banana. There is some smoke and peatiness neptco but it is here as a complimentary note; not the lead player like many other island malts. Sea salt and oak flavors are also present here in noticable quantities. There is a long, silky-smooth finish that lingers pleasantly for some time. The Scapa 16-Year Old is smooth, balanced scotch whisky that has something for everyone. Scotch neophytes will enjoy the smooth sweetness. Connoisseurs will enjoy the balance and complexity. neptco And those who like to mix with club soda or ginger ale should find a good mixing scotch here as well. The Scapa plays out like a musical chord with sweetness playing the lead and peat, salt and oak singing harmony. If you're looking for a high-end single malt to invest in for your collection, your money will be well spent on this 16 year old masterpiece. Inside the bottle is a 16-year-old Scotch, which replaces the distillery’s 14-year single malt (which, in turn, replaced the distillery’s 12-year-old). Scapa’s just a one-whisky outfit, it seems. This is a racy whisky, with a rye, grain-like character. how to make duct tape wallet A touch of peat smoke fades into a modest butterscotch sweetness, touched with notes of sage and black pepper. how to make duct tape wallet Scapa is made with local water that smells of heather, which certainly accounts for some of the greenery notes in the glass, but it’s the briny salt that comes on strong in the finish that reminds one that this is an island whisky at heart. Sweet and salty in one glass? You bet. It’s a lively expression… but one which might drive whisky traditionalists how to make duct tape wallet into fits. Definitely one to try at least once. You’ll either run away immediately or be back for more in minutes. 80 proof. 3 Responses to Review: Scapa 16 Year Old Scotch Whisky This stuff is delicious. Its only shortcoming is that it is bottled at 40% ABV. The result is that it makes you work for the nose. Other than that it is a beautifully crafted malt with some wonderful fresh notes, a sexy smooth oily pallet, and a nice medium smoke and slightly how to make duct tape wallet brine finish. 16 years old is a great age for this malt. It doesn’t replace my Orkney favorite (Highland Park) but this is a really nice single malt. Scapa is from the Mainland (the biggest island) nna tapes of the Orkney archipelago -- so it's an island malt, but not an Islay. This is not my first experience with Scapa -- I tasted a Scapa bottling years ago, and liked it enough to buy a bottle a few years back. I haven't pulled it out very often, though, and this is the first time I've tried to coherently rate and evaluate this whisky. nna tapes In color, nna tapes this malt is a nice light gold; it's moderately syrupy, clinging slightly to the glass. nna tapes On the nose, I first notice a fairly powerful alcohol burn, and a very noticeable sweet cake and vanilla icing flavor, with a touch of honey and oak. There is something faintly unpleasant underneath -- I wrote down "burnt plastic," and I saw another reviewer note "rubber tires." Fortunately it isn't very powerful. On the tongue, this whisky is syrupy-sweet nna tapes while very drying, with a hot burn and a short finish. I note something herbal, like sage, a flavor like Keemun (English breakfast) tea, a note of hazelnut, notes of dates, orange peel, and unsweetened chocolate. Scapa is often associated with the phrase "heather honey," and I get the honey, but am not sure I'd know what heather tastes like if it bit me. That's probably the herbal, floral note that I'm calling sage. Whatever you call it, it's somewhat subtle, like the other flavors. Some other reviews I found noted a definite pineapple flavor, and I can agree with that, but it reminds me of pineapple juice rather nna tapes than the fruit itself. I tasted it after adding a little water, and was disappointed -- the flavors weaken, and the burnt, bitter notes become more apparent. nna tapes There's a salty-sweet meaty pickled plum note, which I'll just call "umami," that becomes more apparent -- another reviewer noted this as the dried seaweed used to wrap sushi, which I'd say is pretty accurate. In any case, it doesn't really get better with water added -- this whisky is better neat. This dram is pleasant enough, but its flavors are rather mild, and while some of the flavors are interesting and it is well-balanced, it isn't layered with flavors like the Islay malts. nna tapes I don't enjoy the sweet notes now, at 42, as much as I did when I was in my twenties. Note that this would be a great first single malt to taste, if you aren't sure if you'll like the peat and smoke characteristic of most of the Islay malts. Because of the mildness of the flavors, and the predominance of sweetish flavors to the exclusion of most others, my overall rating is only a 7 out of 10. (Grace says 6.5). Scapa now sells a 16 year old bottling which I'm curious to taste. I'm also looking forward to comparing this with an Aberlour. I'm a husband, father of six kids, software engineer, writer, blogger, musician, nna tapes producer, DJ, and podcaster. I'm a big fan of the Oxford comma. I read and I like to talk about stuff I read. I’ve been flirting with Scapa for a year now… camouflage tape tasting it here and there, but never in a situation where I could contemplate and write about it. It surprised me at WhiskyFest 2011, standing out amid a throng of other whiskies that had me pretty much in the bag by the time I got around to the Scapa table. My notes amount to “Mm! Gud!” Finally, I got to have a nice long conversation with a pour of Scapa 16 at K&L this week. It delivers. Just when I was starting camouflage tape to think I’d discovered all the exciting single malts around. It’s not often that I’m taken by a scotch aged solely in ex-bourbon casks (100% first-fill, in this case), but the flavors here are deep and focused. Scapa is located by the ocean in the Orkney Isles, off the northeastern camouflage tape coast of Scotland’s mainland. Like Highland Park, it shares the distinction of being among the northernmost distilleries in Scotland. Unlike camouflage tape Highland camouflage tape Park, Scapa does not use the local Orcadian peat to dry its barley. Also unlike Highland Park, Scapa restricts itself to aging in those first-fill bourbon barrels, which is probably the least intrusive way to age whisky – only a 3rd- or 4th-fill ex-bourbon cask would impart less influence on the whisky. In fact, at its essence, Scapa is as simple as single malt gets: good malt carefully distilled, aged in the simplest possible way, and bottled without flourishes, finishes, or fanfare. I only wish it were bottled at 43% ABV and was not chill-filtered, alas. I marked it “Must Try” because I feel that Scapa showcases what can be done without fancy barrel finishes. It’s a great whisky to try if you’re looking to step out of the mainstream. Nose : Briny. Sugar cookies and vanilla saltwater taffy. Very floral – honeysuckle. Elegant. It rewards a lengthy pondering by evolving more depth – not so much new aromas. It definitely reminds one of the sea – briny air, seaweed washed up on shore, and driftwood drying in the sun. Overall : Quite good. Scapa is light in nature, but delivers surprisingly deep and complex variations on the theme. Not just vanilla, but rich, roasty camouflage tape vanilla. Not just taffy, camouflage tape but briny, homemade saltwater taffy. Not just a good sipping malt, but elegant and accomplished camouflage tape from nose to finish. About The Distillery Now owned by Pernod-Ricard (better known as the owners of Chivas), Scapa is aptly named for the Scapa Flow, a natural harbor along the south coast of the “Mainland” isle of the Orkney Isles. Situated directly on the shore, Scapa malt might derive camouflage tape some of its salty nature by aging in warehouses that face the sea. Scapa is the second most northerly Scottish distillery, losing out to Highland Park by about 1 km. Scapa’s process water comes from three springs camouflage tape near Orquil Farm to the west, which flow through peat bogs and contribute the only peat used by Scapa Distillery. This water is piped partway to the distillery in order to avoid further peat contact. Glad to see a positive review! The reviews I’ve seen on connosr have all been fairly middle-of-the-road (and I think there are only two…), but this gives me hope! My bottle remains unopened on my storage shelf as I have some others I need to work my way through… @Dan, it’s not a big “in camouflage tape your face” type of whisky, and the subtlety can be easily overlooked if you’re used to big cask-strength, sherry-bomb, or peated malts, which seem to be the rage these days. Also, according to Jim Murray, it’s a shadow of what Scapa once was. With the distillery only reopened with vigor in 2004 (having been mothballed for awhile before that under previous ownership), here’s hoping that it can only get better from here! Finally opened my bottle as part of our Highland Park vertical tasting last Friday (technically an Orkney) tasting. Alongside the HP 12, 15, 18, and 21, it provided a really nice contrast of flavours and scents, and was far smoother than the HP expressions. I am going to have to explore the remainder of the bottle on its own to get a good sense of it. Glad to see someone else likes the Scapa 16. Great tasting notes. I found it to be refined, velvety, and really tasty stuff. I do wish it was $15 cheaper so it isn’t an every day (unfortunately). Very nice review and similar to my recollection of the Scapa 14. I’m looking forward to picking up a bottle of the 16. I’ve drank quite a few single malts over the past 10 years and Scapa 14 is the only one I recall that I really loved because of the briny flavor. I was surprised how relatively poor the net reviews are. I highly recommend visiting the Orkney Islands – a truly magical place – and my memory of seeing the distillery sign overlooking the Scapa Flow after a tour of the prehistoric archeology may bias my preference, but I much preferred Scapa 14 to the Highland Park
Scapa 16 yr. Scotch Review | Bargain Bourbon Around this time of year every year, I get a lot of questions from friends 3m and colleagues about Scotch ideas for the holidays. For some very wrong reasons, Scotch 3m has much more holiday 3m allure 3m than other whiskeys. But, I figured that since I have not done much with Scotch reviews in a while, I will be spending the month of November reviewing some affordable Scotch whiskeys. To kick off Scotchvember at Bargain Bourbon, I am doing a review of Scapa 16 yr., a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Orkney off the north coast of Scotland. Orkney is most known in the whisky world for Highland Park, and for good reason; Highland Park is a beautiful single malt. That said, Scapa is a wonderful distillery with a much different profile from that of its Orcadian neighbors at Highland Park. The standard offering from Scapa is their 16 year-old, an old offering for a standard entry bottling. One of the most unique aspects of Scapa distilling process 3m is that they usually slow down their fermentation process (sometimes taking up to a week to ferment), which elicits a fruity backbone to the finished spirit. The waxy characteristics of Scapa are also aided by a Lomond wash still, which produces a heavy, oily low wine before being transferred to more traditional copper 3m pot still. The Lomond still allows for a lot of reflux, holding heavier vapors in the still for longer periods of time before condensation. The end result is dense, waxy mouth feel in the finished product. Scapa 16 yr. is aged in refill bourbon casks for a minimum of 14 years before being transferred over to first-fill bourbon casks for at least two years before being bottled at 86 proof (43% abv). On the nose, Scapa is sweet, with a lot of honey and vanilla notes. There are also some notes of barley and heavy whipping cream mixed in. The palate is very distinct, with its buttery 3m mouth feel. There are a lot of sweet notes here as well, with caramel, honey, vanilla, and fresh oak. The finish is medium, 3m and exposes some oak spiciness along with the sweetness of the caramel and vanilla. The whisky really coats the throat well, and goes down buttery smooth. 3m I hate when people say that a whisky is smooth, but this one is very much that on the finish. Overall, I really enjoyed this malt. Scapa s sweet flavors and distinct mouth feel tend to get mixed reviews, but it all worked well for me. I think this is a great dram to have on the shelf for the holidays because of its flexibility across different palates. I think Lagavulin 16 yr. might be a better whisky, but Lagavulin certainly is not for everyone. I think most of the folks at your holiday parties will enjoy Scapa, but you know your guests better than I do. My grade: B+. Price: $70-80/750ml . The price point is very affordable, considering its age, making it a great whisky to let it ride with if you ve been looking for a Scotch to delve into this holiday season. Archives How Spirits Are Made Slicing and dicing Scotland and Scottish whiskey by region has always been problematic. Caol Ila is an Islay whisky, but much of it is actually aged on the Scottish mainland. Highland Park has a nice peaty character, but it’s about as far away in Scotland that you can get from Islay. When Scotch producers talk about the impact of the ocean on their spirits, it’s easy to forget that Scotland is ALL part of an island where the ocean is never very far away. Grouping single malt whisky by region may be a fine and overly simplistic way of starting to tackle the vast world of Scotch whisky, glow in the dark duct tape but a more accurate and productive means of grouping is style. How barley malt is dried (over peat fires or with hot air), how a whisky is mashed and distilled and what it was aged in will tell you much more about a whiskys character than where it was made. An area of Scotland that is often overlooked in the regional equation is a grouping of islands in the northern glow in the dark duct tape most part of Scotland called the Orkney Islands. Orkey is best known for being the home of Highland Park Whisky and is also the home to a number of key Viking related archeological digs. The whisky on Orkney often gets looped under the general “Islands” category, but the two single glow in the dark duct tape malts produced on the island: Highland Park and Scappa couldn’t be more different. Scapa is a relatively small distillery run by just a handful of people, but it happens to be owned by a fairly well known company – Pernod Ricard. Often tricky to find, Scapa can be found in the US in 14 and 16 year old expressions. Scapa 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (40% ABV, 80 proof $60) – dark gold in color, Scapa 16 has a wonderfully inviting nose with bright green apple, honey, salt, apricot, cereal grains and light smoke. The entry is extraordinarily full in flavor with malt, cereal grains, honey and light citrus all there from the start. The flavors intensify in the midpalate where they are joined by dried apricot ,salt and light peat smoke. The finish is nice long and very slightly dry with a brilliant mix of salt, light smoke and honey with just a touch of citrus. Scapa 16 does a remarkable job of presenting a nice range of balanced flavors and then maintaing that balance and complexity as it journeys through the palate . The combination of flavors in the midpalate and on the finish are superb glow in the dark duct tape and absolutely category breaking. Scapa isn’t smokey or peaty enough to be safely classed as an Island or marine style whisky and its honey and cereal grain notes aren’t strong enough to be considered a Highland. Ultimately, Scapa is its own thing, a fusion of styles and flavors that come together with distinct character. Scapa 16 is a delicious hidden gem from one of the world’s giant spirit companies. +Geoff Kleinman , is the founder, and managing editor of DrinkSpirits.com. Scapa Single Malt Scotch Whisky - All Spirits News And Reviews Scapa Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the remote Orkney Isles, is well known for its unique heather and honey flavour – in contrast to the normally robust island malts from other parts of Scotland. This very special, small distillery, with only 2 Stills, and has been through a careful rebuilding terrifically program to restore it to full time production once again. Without this it would fall silent forever. terrifically A Legend Reborn: To any single terrifically malt lover the closure of any distillery is a tragedy. A unique expression of this most wonderful terrifically of all spirits is lost forever as no single malt can ever be re-developed elsewhere. Such are the complex mysteries of distilling intertwined with each distilleries unique location. Indeed few locations we believe are quite as magical as the Orkney Isles. An archipelago of 70 islands, Scapa is located on what is called the Orkney Mainland – despite being one of the islands, it is named as such as it is the biggest of all. Although remote, lying to the North of mainland Scotland, the Orkney Isles have a particularly rich and intriguing history, dating back to at least 5,000 BC. The Vikings arrived in Shetland and the Orkneys in the 8th and 9th centuries and ruled for the next 600 years. In 1468 the islands were effectively sold to James II of Scotland by the king of Denmark. Today the Orkney Isles encompass a wealth of historic sites from bronze age burial mound and villages to standing stones and ancient churches and a wealth of natural history, particularly bird and sea-life. The history of Scapa distillery itself began in 1885. The very remoteness of the islands meant that they were perhaps not the most obvious location terrifically to create a new distillery – especially for a partnership with a history of distilling in Speyside. However this is exactly what Macfarlane and Townsend did. The reputation of the islanders for hard work and an entrepreneurial character may well have been one of the factors, along with the special character terrifically of malt whisky they believed could be produced at Scapa. The exact reasons for Scapa’s precise location, overlooking Scapa Bay however, are lost in time. However there is little doubt that the location is a special one. Alfred Barnard in his classic Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom described the scene in 1887 in poetic terms, ‘But the beautiful seascape somewhat compensates for this loss (of trees), for sparkling in the bright sunshine are the white sails of ships, and boats manned by crews who know every creek on the coast, and whose voices can be heard singing the favourite ‘Orkney Boatman’s terrifically Song’. Interestingly Barnard describes the production as being 40,000 gallons per year or 184,000 litres – the same production that is planned today. In 1919 Scapa became the property of the Scapa Distillery Company Limited, having been an unusual billet for ratings from the Royal Navy, based at Scapa Flow, during the First World War. Eventually it was sold to Hiram Walker in 1954. January 2004 was a defining time for Scapa single malt not for the first time but unquestionably the last it was faced with closure. A choice had to be made between the expense of trying to re-furbish a distillery to the latest legislative requirements or simply allow it to pass into history. The real question being what value should be placed on over a century of the distillers art? The end result was one-sided. A decision was made to re-furbish and restore the distillery to ensure its long-term survival, hopefully terrifically for at least another 100 years. The refurbishment is focused on quality, the distillery only produces for single malts and will remain a very small operation. Scapa is now saved for the foreseeable future. We have taken our distillery from a mothballed and rundown state to the momentous event in late November 2004 when the first new spirit flowed. Work of course will continue well into the next few years to complete the total renovation. Scapa, is a whisky to be enjoyed not endured. terrifically MacFarlane and Townsend the Scapa creators managed to capture terrifically all this in their whisky. Take a sip and you can imagine yourself amongst the heather and gorse watching the sun slowly setting over these beautiful rolling hills and the endless terrifically sea as they must have well over 100 years ago. Scapa 16 Year Old Single Malt Whisky - Campbeltown - Highland - Island - Islay - Lowland - Speyside Home Single Malt Whisky Island Scapa Scapa 16 Year Old The initially controversial 16yo official expression of Scapa is now winning tape test people round with a jump in quality after a few wobbly years following the rapid transition from the much-loved 12yo via the short-lived 14yo. Orkney's less shouted about (but still lovely tape test in its own way) malt whisky has found its feet. World Whiskies Awards tape test 2012 - Best Island 13 to 20 years Scapa 1989 20 Year Old Cask #3132 59.95 I normally only buy Speyside single malts, but on a whim decided to try this and so glad I did! For my tastes the Scapa is the nicest whiskey I've had. Deliciously warming and smooth straight up...but let a couple of large ice cubes melt for 5 mins & it develops tape test a honey sweetness that is a Speyside lovers dream! Well worth it at the present reduced price as well. You do read a lot of tosh! This is a great, balanced malt which I'm keen does not get better known. Heather, honey and finesse, tape test not a slug of peat to complicate things. If you prefer heavily peated malts, there are plenty about. This one is about balance, and very much to my palate. Great stuff. Nice smooth whisky. No burning in the mouth nor the throat. Just a lovely warmth in the belly. A hint of smoke mind you it's just a hint . Altogether this whisky is one of the better offerings. tape test Quite complex and needs a patience to appreciate it fully. It's braw so it is. Try it You will enjoy it...... Heather and honey - the true taste of Orkney everytime! Terrific value for money and a winner with guests. Beautiful bottle! Sadly, I think less of the contents. A faint whiff of butterscotch on the nose quickly faded into linseed oil and old varnish. tape test A few drops of Caol Ila greatly improve the taste of this whiskey. I don?t generally prefer peated whiskey; this bottle just needs a bit more depth to suite my palate. Mine seems to be the contrarian opinion, but this is one purchase I shall not repeat. The delightful heather-honeyness of this single malt is exceptional. The rarity and purity of this malt - forget the well publicised/advertised commercials of others - fully justifies its price and claims. tape test In turn these compel one to sip a little more carefully and to savour the subtle bled for longer. The experience is that much more appreciated and worthwhile... Hennessy XO Cognac £109.00 VeriSign Trusted Enjoy Responsibly Scroll
Israel and Hamas of war: rhetoric and reality | Comments network 3m primer 94 Iraqi translator's note: early November 2009, Professor Avi St. Anthony's College, Oxford University, was invited to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies done I visited a "hundred Israeli-Palestinian conflict "lecture. His report objectively fair, to our understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian question helpful. Three weeks later, I gave Professor Avi sent an e-mail and asked him to report to me in English, translated into Chinese so that I introduced to Chinese readers. Professor Avi quickly sent me an essay, I use a few weekends 3m primer 94 translated finish this article. Professor Avi 20 1960s worked in the Israeli army, but his spirit in a rigorous academic research on the truth of a conflict between Palestine and Israel, the situation of the Palestinian people, as well as European and American policy in this article on the Palestine-Israel, and carried an objective and fair discussion, so as we understand the Israeli-Palestinian issue provides a unique perspective. 2008 Israeli war on Gaza lasted 22 days, resulting in more than 1300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis dead. The only way to understand the historical background of this war does not make sense to find out. May 1948, on the basis of UN resolutions on the establishment of the State of Israel, against the Palestinian people is undoubtedly extremely unfair. British government to support the nascent State of Israel, the United States is very angry, June 2, 1948, Sir John Baker wrote DPRK Foreign Minister Ernest Bevin (Ernest Bevin) the letter said, the Americans want to generate a "A guy from a gang of unscrupulous leaders of government" responsible. I used to think this argument too far, but Israel's brutal attack on the people of Gaza, the Bush administration involved in the attack, 3m primer 94 leads to this topic again. As the 20th century, the mid-1960s were a faithful service 3m primer 94 in the Israeli army, as a scholar never doubted the legitimacy 3m primer 94 of the State of Israel within the boundaries of 1967 years ago, and I have rejected beyond the Green Line of Zionism's Colonial plans. After the June 1967 war, Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Israel unrelated to national security, territorial expansion associated with their actions. The purpose of the Palestinian territories through permanent political, economic and military control in order to establish a Greater Israel, resulting in one of the brutal military occupation of contemporary longest. Israel lost the Gaza Strip to control up to four years to bring the economy of the region immeasurable. 1948 a large number of refugees into the narrow Gaza Strip, no infrastructure, no natural resources, Gaza's prospects never brighter. Gaza is not only a lack of economic development in the case, but Sarah Roy (Sara Roy) said deliberate cruelty cases to prevent its development. Quoted the words of the Bible, the people of Israel into the Gaza firewood coolies carrying water to Gaza to provide cheap labor and become a monopoly in Israel commodity markets. Development of local industry in Gaza was deliberately hampered difficult to escape the fate of the Palestinians a vassal of Israel, can not establish a genuine political independence indispensable pillar of the economy. Gaza is still subject to a typical case of colonial exploitation in the post-colonial era. After the Six Day War, Israel in the occupied Arab territories immediately to build Jewish civilian settlements, these settlements are neither legal, but also insurmountable obstacle to peace. Occupation they soon became a symbol of the exploitation of the tool and the hatred. 3m primer 94 In Gaza, in 2005 there were 8,000 Jewish settlers, local residents, there are as many as 1.4 million. However, Jewish settlers controlled 25% of the territory, 40% of the arable land, as well as the proportion of the population with its disproportionate valuable water resources. And the vast majority of these outsiders adjoining local Palestinians are poor, miserable. Eighty percent of them who live on less than two U.S. dollars a day, relying on the United Nations Refugee Agency and the United Nations Relief Unemployment Relief 3m primer 94 Agency provided quantitative food for a living. Palestinians in the occupied area of the living conditions of civilized values is contempt, is to breed resistance forces and the political 3m primer 94 extremism of fertile soil. August 2005, Sharon led Israel's Likud government announced 3m primer 94 a unilateral withdrawal from Gaza, 8000 evacuate the settlers, they left the house completely destroyed. Hamas launched a campaign to Israelis out of Gaza. Evacuation of Jewish Hamas victory, the Israel Defense Forces of shame. Sharon told the public 3m primer 94 that the Jews moved out of Gaza is a contribution to peace based on a two-state solution. However, on the withdrawal from Gaza this year, another 12,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank, further narrowing the independent Palestinian state territorial area. Seize territory and peace mediation can not have both, Israel could choose, but it chose land rather than peace. Israel likes to dress up as its own sea of authoritarianism of a democratic island. However, since the founding of the Israeli Arabs to promote democracy as the only no, but the idea of trying 3m primer 94 to undermine democracy and the Arabs. Israel's long-term secret support of anti-Arab force to suppress 3m primer 94 Palestinian nationalism. Despite the obstacles, the Palestinian people are still trying to establish true democracy. January 2006 in fair and free elections in the Palestinian legislator, Hamas victory and set up by the government leadership. Israel, however, refused to recognize the democratically elected government, claiming that Hamas is a terrorist organization. Like other radical movements, a robust political program launched after the ruling Hamas. It persists in its refusal to recognize 3m primer 94 Israel, 3m primer 94 but already from the constitution, rejected ideological and strongly called for the establishment of an Islamic 3m primer 94 Palestinian state, began to move toward a pragmatic two-state solution. His spokesman has repeatedly said that they accept Palestinian state under the framework of the 1967 borders and offered on the basis of a long-term truce agreement. March 2007, Hamas and Fatah to form a coalition government to prepare a long-term truce with Israel 3m primer 94 negotiated. But Israel refused to negotiate with the Palestinian unity government, refused to negotiate with Hamas political leaders, but also to find ways to fight its military. December 27, 2008 Israeli war in Gaza is a series of conflicts with the Hamas government and confrontation climax. In a broader sense, this is a war between Israel and the Palestinian people, the Palestinian people elected 3m primer 94 because of this ruling. Israel claims that the purpose of war is to weaken 3m primer 94 Hamas' strength to its pressure until its leaders agreed to a new cease-fire agreement proposed by Israel. Israel's ulterior purpose is to oust Hamas, Palestinians in Gaza to ensure that the international community look to do humanitarian issues, enabling them to struggle 3m primer 94 for independence and statehood from the track. Indeed, Hamas in this conflict is not completely innocent. Actually winning the election fruit unacknowledged, face unscrupulous adversary, it is resorting to weapons of the weak - terror. Prior to June 2008, Egypt led to a six-month cease-fire agreement, Hamas and Islamic Jihad's militants fired rockets sporadic attacks near the Israeli settlements in the Gaza border. Harm caused by these primitive rockets is small, but the psychological impact they bring is great, the people asked the Government to compel Israel to protect 3m primer 94 its security. In this case, Israel has the right to take self-defense measures, but it was in response to rocket attacks on original disproportionate. According to data released by Israel, the withdrawal from Gaza three years, 11 Israelis died in a rocket; on the other hand, between 2005 and 2007 a total of IDF in Gaza killed 1,290 Palestinians, including 222 children. IDF's "impunity" theory, and even extended to the Rachel Ke Lei (Rachel Corrie) and Tom Hearn Del (Tom Hurndall) and other international volunteer fire with impunity. Is a huge gulf between Israel's behavior fragmented facts and their spokesman rhetoric. First, rather than Hamas IDF violations of the ceasefire agreement. November 4, 2008 the Israeli Defense Forces this reason 3m primer 94 incredible tunnel is being excavated by Palestinian militants as a pretext to launch air strikes in Gaza and killed six people. A little-known but crucial fact is that before the Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas has been effective compliance with the ceasefire agreement. The first four months of truce achieved great success. A chart Israeli Foreign Ministry website to prove this fact beyond doubt, this chart shows, to launch the monthly average number of Israeli rockets before 2008 was 179 per month from July to October 2008 plummeted to an average of 3 month. Offensive on Gaza beginning, this chart was immediately removed from the site, this number is erased for the rocket attacks on Israeli civilians during the ceasefire substantial reduction record. Well-equipped Israeli tanks and ground troops crossed the border into northern Gaza. Their mission is to destroy rocket launch facilities, the fight against Hamas offices and command, control center, killing Hamas' main political leaders and military leaders. Its purpose is to avoid trouble by beheading action 3m primer 94 of long-term occupation. Israeli officials do not want to admit that the intention of forcing Hamas attacks on Gaza downfall, because it would undermine international support for their attacks on Gaza by claiming that only a purely defensive action to stop Hamas rocket and won. Defense Department officials believe more and more attacks will weaken the power of Hamas and Hamas eventually ousted. Intelligence agencies also told the Cabinet, is prompting Israeli bombing of Palestinian public opinion opposed to Hamas, but this is just wishful exaggerated speech. In the short term, however, troubled, terrified Palestinians would support the troubled government. People on the degree 3m primer 94 of brutal Israeli attacks and the killing of innocent nature shocked. Israeli spokesman repeatedly declared that they care about innocent civilians. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel from the outset in order to treat the iron fist of Hamas, treat civilians 3m primer 94 with velvet gloves. In view of the IDF in Gaza caused by the fact that a large number of deaths and destruction, which is a lie. Throughout, the rising number of civilian casualties. This is not an accident, but the IDF soldiers mercilessly destroy everything in order to avoid casualties along the direct consequence of the new creed. War crimes are sad feature of this tragic war. Those who send soldiers to the world's most densely populated areas of war should know that the result was a massacre killing and maiming of innocent people. In this brutal war, not one committed by Israeli soldiers, two crimes, but many crimes. Including: bombing Gabba Calabria (Jabaliya) camps UN school, killing shelter where 44 civilians; in Gaza southeast Ze Tuen (Zeitoun) village, put a hundred people herded into a house after the bombing and which killed thirty people; throwing white phosphorus bombs; using civilians 3m primer 94 as human shields to do; to hospitals, mobile clinics, ambulances and medical personnel shot. United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay (Navi Pillay) told the BBC that the atrocities occurred in 泽图恩 region clearly has all the characteristics of war crimes, 3m primer 94 he called for an independent and transparent 3m primer 94 investigation. These war crimes does not have any moral or legal basis at all. Israel in the war only means of violence, there is no coherent strategy. Its strategy is both disgraceful, but also self-defeating. Rely on force to resolve political problems in Lebanon tried, failed, it is doomed to fail again in Gaza. No amount of military strikes will not let Hamas dejected or give up power in the face of death and destruction caused by Israel, Hamas militants would continue to resist and continue to launch rockets. It is an advocate of sacrifice and martyrdom spirit groups, the face of such groups, military force has its limitations. Israel always reserves the right to resort to force to their access to safe and excuse. However, the "security" in the Israeli-style security in Gaza denied basic public. The only way to get Israel's southern border security dialogue with Hamas, rather than bombing and burning. Hamas has repeatedly declared, ready to reach a long-term truce with Israel in the framework of 1967 borders before, 20 years, 30 years or even 50 years. For the same reason Israel declined the offer, as it rejected the Arab League peace plan in 2002 the same: it requires concessions and compromises. Israel declared a unilateral ceasefire and the victory ended the Gaza war, but the war is Israel and its army in a huge moral failure on the ends. Hamas ended the war, although 3m primer 94 bruised but still in power, still in the provocation, and to hold the moral high ground. War inadvertently weakened Fatah's influence, enhance 3m primer 94 the Israeli 3m primer 94 aggression against the Palestinian resistance Hamas as the sole leader of qualifications. Israel unrestricted use of force, not only damaged its own interests, but also harm the interests of the West. Throughout the Arab world and the Muslim world caused great outrage, neither in their interest nor in line with the interests of its allies. This Commentary briefly reviews the past four decades of Israeli occupation of Gaza, especially the attacks on Gaza 22 days, so you can not refute this conclusion: 3m primer 94 it has become a "leadership 3m primer 94 by a group of unscrupulous guys" state. A flagrant 3m primer 94 violation of international law, have weapons of mass destruction, the implementation of terrorism - to achieve national political purposes the use of force against civilians. Israel meets these three conditions for this title, we must accept this title. 3m primer 94 Israel's real aim is not peaceful coexistence with the Palestinians, but military control. It added a new crime of old wrong unchanged Israel in Gaza went too far: it sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind. Modern civilized society are pursuing norms of freedom of expression and freedom of belief, which set up a system of civilized cinta masking tape and can easily be abused and lead barbarians. This time civilized people wake a dream: it is not a multicultural one culture, but multicultural Terminator; It is not a belief in freedom of religion, but freedom of belief gravedigger. January 18, 2009 morning 8:00, Israel cinta masking tape implemented a unilateral cease-fire in Gaza, which lasted 23 days of the end of the Gaza war. With independent information on the Internet revealed, I began to understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, start thinking about ethical issues related to the war of independence, discover the essence of the war, it is not the land and religious conflicts, but civilized war against totalitarianism and terrorism. Has not been recognized by the international community, cinta masking tape Hamas, in essence, is the plague of civilization, it is just a new variant of totalitarianism, inherent in human nature is the outbreak of a dark and depraved. cinta masking tape It is not only the enemy of the state of Israel, too, is the enemy of the Palestinian people, kind of Muslim enemy, the enemy of human civilization. cinta masking tape We first take a look at a brief history of Gaza. In the old large Palestinian areas, Jews and Arabs have lived here. November cinta masking tape 1947, the United Nations adopted resolution 181, establishing the Palestinian areas in the old Jewish state and Arab countries, including the Gaza Strip, including a 11,500 square km area classified as "Arab country", the internationalization of Jerusalem. May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was proclaimed. Since this resolution was strongly opposed to the Palestinians and the Arab world, the Palestinians did not founding. At the founding of Israel the next day, it neighboring cinta masking tape Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinian guerrilla attack cinta masking tape on Israel together, do not let it survive. It was only five countries had more than forty million people, while Israel only 600,000 people, there is no regular army. However, the stubborn Israelites to cost nearly one percent of the population was killed, cinta masking tape and winning the war. From the founding of Israel in 1982, Israel and the Arab countries were carried out in five Middle East war, Israel not only not be destroyed, and a strong strike and occupation of a large number of Arab territories, including in 1967 in "65 war" occupation of Gaza. But Israel has no intention of occupying territory of the other, cinta masking tape when Egypt, Jordan acknowledged the existence of Israel is no longer guaranteed after the Israeli aggression, put the land back to Egypt and Jordan. September 1993, Israel and the Palestinians signed the "Declaration of Principles", cinta masking tape in May 1994, the PLO took over Gaza, Gaza, about 60 percent of the land to achieve full autonomy. August 15, 2005, Israel implemented a unilateral action plan to begin withdrawal cinta masking tape from the Gaza Strip, when the Sept. 12, to complete the withdrawal, an end to 38 years of occupation of the Gaza Strip, Gaza completely returned to the Palestinians. January 2006, Hamas dominated Palestinian politics for nearly half a century defeat of Fatah in the Palestinian legislative elections committee, won the election. February 2007, Hamas and Fatah signed the "Mecca Agreement" to form a coalition government, but Hamas rejected its nationalization cinta masking tape of the military. June 2007, Hamas and Fatah's bloody civil war by controlling Gaza. Although the Chinese government and the international community has repeatedly condemned Hamas's terrorist activities, emphasizing the need to respect Israel's cinta masking tape right to exist. But this organization cinta masking tape was founded in 1987, has always refused to recognize the existence of Israel, its main goal is to "wipe Israel off the map." Gaza under Hamas control, into a base for terrorist attacks against Israel. Although Israel spent heavily to build a 681 km wall, but hundreds of tunnels dug by Hamas into Israeli attacks on civilians, and protracted firing rockets into Israel, according cinta masking tape to statistics from the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza three years ago, ha Maas Israel has fired more than 6,000 rockets. December 19, 2008, Hamas and Israel six-month ceasefire expired, Hamas refused to renew, and from December 24 for three consecutive days to launch more than 100 rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel . December 27, Israel sent troops to Gaza, the war broke out. War smoke dispersed, left behind a devastated Gaza and thousands of casualties, cinta masking tape including a large number of civilians, whether they should be considered to Israel's cinta masking tape head off? So far there is no evidence to prove that Israel had targeted civilians. On the contrary, at the expense of Israel's raid effect, ten minutes before the attack to call the attack site to leave. Before the ground attack, the Israeli army distributed leaflets in Arabic lot, dial voice calls, to civilians away from Hamas, if there is a military target nearby residence, be sure to leave. January 5 this year, the Israeli military hesitate to interfere with the Hamas television station, to the maximum extent to remind ordinary Palestinians who do not cooperate with terrorists, do not act as "human shields" for Hamas. The maximum to avoid Palestinian civilian casualties at this point, cinta masking tape Israel spared no expense, cinta masking tape well-intentioned. Hamas do? After notification cinta masking tape to attack Israel, they are not organized civilian transfer of the building, but the arrangement on the roof of civilians as human shields! The mosque cinta masking tape when the arsenal, the Islamic University as ammunition depots, they have long been commonplace. cinta masking tape Their fellow Palestinians, Fatah officials in Gaza before Mohammed Dahlan told the German "Der Spiegel" interview, said Hamas does not care about ordinary people's life and death, they even hesitate cinta masking tape to fire rockets into Israel from the residential center, making Local residents in danger of Israeli retaliatory strikes. This point has also been head of Amnesty cinta masking tape International in the Middle East branch Malcolm Smart confirmed. A Palestinian critics say the lives of others who are neither valued nor cherish their own lives, the use of suicide bombers of Hamas who might secretly look forward to more than a few dead Palestinians, in order to prove that Israel's "brutal." Not to mention that in the distant ancient times, cinta masking tape Jews once lived on this land. The eve of World War II to 1939, the Palestinian residents already had 450,000 Jews, there are 1.06 million Arabs, Jews accounted for about one third of the total population at that time, and now the State of Israel did not exist, let alone be the founding of Israel invaded the Palestinian land. The founding of Israel in 1948, is under United Nations auspices. cinta masking tape One has a Jewish population of over ten million population, why not have one of their own country? cinta masking tape Not to mention the country requires only 18,000 square kilometers of tiny, and is on top of their ancestral homeland. History will not forget, much in August 24, 1929, took place against the Jews of Hebron had mob massacre. That massacre culprits cinta masking tape Amin al-Husseini even in November 28, 1941 to appear before Hitler, the two talked about the common ideal of the devil extinction of the Jewish nation, and on Holocaust issues hit it off. Subsequently, Husseini recruited in Europe for about two million of the Nazi SS division, the activities involved in the massacre of Jews in Croatia and Hungary. 1947, the General Assembly adopted the partition resolution, Husseini family immediately cinta masking tape put armed Palestinian war against the Jews. We can see that these atrocities apparently nothing to do with the relationship between the founding of Israel. cinta masking tape In later times Middle East war, Israel did occupy some territory to Egypt, Jordan, Israel has declared, as long as these countries recognize the existence of Israel, Israel cinta masking tape will return these territories. In Egypt and Jordan recognize Israel cinta masking tape after those territories really have to be returned. As for the Gaza Strip, Israel in 2005 have also been completely withdrawn from the ground, Hamas in Gaza said the territorial issue has ceased to exist, but Hamas still is constantly attacking Israeli civilians. Israel cinta masking tape plans to actively promote the "land for peace", while Hamas was trying to undermine the plan. April 16, 1993, on the "Oslo agreement" to be signed on the eve of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cinta masking tape by "Hamas" in the first case of planning suicide bombings occurred; after the "Oslo Agreement" signed in the Israeli withdrawal, removal Jewish settlements in the process, "Jihad", "Hamas" and other terrorist organizations and more than a series of planned suicide bombing casualties. Visible, not the land they want. To say the least, even if both territorial disputes, but it also must not become beheadings kidnappings, massacres of civilians reasons, this is not a protest, a crime against humanity. Throughout the world today, there are how many countries have territorial disputes between? Poland, Germany, Finland, and even China, etc., to their previous borders where? If you are like Hamas did to the land issue, the European anyone alive? Is Israel succumbing cinta masking tape to terrorist blackmail, totally abandon this piece of land, the terrorists will stop at it? No, absolutely not. Taliban killing girls, just because they go to school education; cinta masking tape shot in the streets of al-Qaeda national tennis players, just because they wear shorts; mob attacked Chinese in Indonesia; Chechen terrorists to blow up the school, terrorists bombed hotel in Mumbai ... Like ... These and Hamas terrorists, there is no relationship with the territorial cinta masking tape issue it? We see that even for their own people, killing Hamas also does not have the slightest leniency, this is not a religious issue. In the 2007 Palestinian civil war, Hamas let the world see, they did not rational at all. Fatah is an internationally recognized organization on behalf of the Palestinian people, they expect the formation of a democratic government in Palestine. They recognize the existence of Israel, and made great efforts for the peaceful coexistence of the two, and Israel signed a peace treaty. However, cinta masking tape Hamas does not recognize the authority of the democratically elected Palestinian government and the law, refused to democracy arrangements Pakistani government refused to recognize the treaty signed with Israel. Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar had said that Hamas would not become a political party, he will be activities in all fields. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's own, Hamas also used artillery attacked his residence. At 9 January 2008, Abbas term ends, but although cinta masking tape according to Palestinian law, Abbas can continue cinta masking tape as president cinta masking tape for at least a year, has made clear that Hamas no longer recognizes his presidential position. Mohammed Dahlan, said: "Hamas and Israel will never allow us to reach a genuine peace agreement, they will do everything possible to prevent us from doing so." "Hamas cinta masking tape is the worst organizations throughout the Middle East, people are afraid of them, Gaza, no one would dare to express their dissatisfaction, otherwise they will face jail or even the death penalty. " He said, well, kill Hamas, not just Israel. Palestinian civil war in 2007, they put their own people from the ten-story cinta masking tape building dropped to his death alive, stuck in front of the hospital to seek treatment massacre came to the wounded enemy, the enemy were family cinta masking tape distraught at the funeral slaughter. Even once fought side by side and their own organization, Hamas also spared. Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades several years to launch terrorist attacks against Israel, the two sides cooperate on several occasions in the Gaza Strip against Israeli attacks. One of its founders, Jamal Abu Al Gu Dian, in a hospital bed is Hamas executed, his body forty-one bomb; another leader Sami E A Matt Horne was After the killing, the bodies cinta masking tape were Hamas dragged in the streets. Brutal Hamas, cinta masking tape as Sharon said: They are all bloodthirsty as life. Some media often render the Palestinian population living in poverty, it seems that poverty is the Israeli occupation of their resources to bring. This is actually the conclusion of a backward peasant thinking for granted, modern commercial and industrial civilization is not a zero-sum game resources. Comrade Xiaoping put it very well, the theme of today's world are competing for peace and development, science and technology and culture is the most fundamental elements. Look at today's world, the per capita land area and the relationship between cinta masking tape resources and the wealthy have little system and advanced technology is wealthy or not the decisive factor. cinta masking tape You know, from the founding of Israel to the present, their population has increased more than tenfold, but she talks about growing cinta masking tape prosperity. Today, Israel is the world center of science and culture in order to create the world's top technology and the most sophisticated products and famous. cinta masking tape The American Stock Exchange, the number of Israeli companies tight inferior Canada. A dry desert country, even by drip irrigation technology unique in the world, become high-grade agricultural exporting cinta masking tape countries, creating a piece of land on which there has never been prosperous. Data shows that Palestinian self-owned housing property was 86%, the average household living area of 145 square meters, there are 103 families cinta masking tape in refugee camps square. The vast majority of households have refrigerators, color TVs and washing machines. Among them, 93% of rural households and 92 percent of the refugee camp households have color TV; 89% of rural households and 82 percent of the refugee camp households have refrigerators; 82% of rural households and 86% of households have a washing machine in refugee camps; 21.6% families with imported cars, which the proportion of the refugee camps, family-owned private cars reached 9% (2.4 times in Beijing). Although they average 6.3 per couple birth a child, but in 2000, about $ 2,100 per capita income also. Some media reported that some Palestinian families living expenditure per capita is less than $ 2 a day, do not forget, most of these poor families cinta masking tape have eight more children, cinta masking tape more than ten of our family, I ask, according to the standard calculation, the number of Chinese household monthly living expenses reached more than 4000 yuan? Gaza bureau chief reporter from Xinhua News Agency reported Ma Xiaolin, we can see that the figures: an assistant architect of the Palestinians in Israel earn $ 1,200 a month, basic and Israeli citizens equal pay; Gaza Strip, a 40-year-old Garment factory workers could have fetched a month, teachers and civil servants are paid $ 730 higher. In Palestine, 60.4% of the population has health insurance, and the rest of the government, or enjoy free basic health care of the United Nations. cinta masking tape Only in 2006, for example, cinta masking tape the United States, European Union and other donors to the Palestinian provide up to $ 1.5 billion on. We often see on television, those young people throwing stones at Israeli tanks, dress than our city people look more like city people. Israel says is depriving them of their land and resources, this argument cinta masking tape in modern industrial society is obviously absurd, we will never hear of Shenzhen indigenous fishermen complain of millions of people of foreign occupation of their land, depriving their resources for survival. In contrast, advanced commercial and industrial civilization makes everyone benefits. But what Hamas can bring? They even the most rough TV, most junk cars, the most stupid computers are not made out, they are nothing. After the Hamas-controlled Gaza, Gaza, great economic deterioration, Israel left greenhouses and other agricultural facilities, although being destroys
